SEAACA received test result information for three (3) dogs in their care who tested positive for a highly contagious bacteria called, Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus, also commonly referred to as, “strep zoo”.

Out of precaution, additional pathogen tests have been sent out to labs for various dogs to seek additional health related information. Shelters across the country are dealing with strep zoo. It has been referred to as the “mystery dog illness” by the media. Strep zoo is zoonotic to humans but has a very rare incident of transmission.

SEAACA’s team continues to have access to personal protective equipment (PPE).
