First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day is an annual worldwide celebration to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

Come join the City of South Gate in its 19th Earth Day Community Cleanup and Celebration event. Friends and families of all ages are welcome!

Earth Day Activities:
  • Litter cleanup
  • Bulky item drop-off
  • Tree planting
  • Graffiti removal
  • Green exhibits
  • Free giveaways
  • Free oil recycling kits
Free Mulch:

UWS will provide cubic foot bags of mulch to residents.

  • Limit of two bags, while supplies last.
Free Paper Shredding:

UWS will provide free paper shredding services.

  • (3) standard office storage boxes per residence.
Free Bulky item Drop-off (8:30am-11:30am):

Acceptable items include, but not limited to:

Furniture and bulky household items (book cases, couches, mattresses, etc.) E-waste: computers, printers, cables, televisions, VCRs, stereos, and similar items.

Prohibited Items: Household hazardous waste (paint, motor oil, solvents, car batteries, anti-freeze, etc.) and tires. *The bulky item drop off is for South Gate residents only. Please bring proof of residency.
 

Volunteer

  • Registration begins at 7:00am.
  • A signed waiver(PDF, 142KB) is required to participate in select activities.
  • Please dress appropriately. Closed-toe shoes are required.
  • Middle and high school students will be credited with community service hours.
