South Gate Park PFAS Treatment Plant
The City of South Gate is designing a new water treatment facility at South Gate Park to remove PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), a group of man-made chemicals that have been detected in several of the City's groundwater wells. This project will help ensure the City continues to provide safe, high-quality drinking water to the community.
In August 2024, the City awarded a design contract to Tetra Tech to prepare the plans for the new treatment facility. The project has reached the 60% design milestone, and the plans have been reviewed by both the City and the California Division of Drinking Water (DDW). Tetra Tech is currently preparing the 90% design, incorporating comments received during the review process.
Final design is expected to be completed by September 2026, after which the City will continue pursuing funding and move toward construction of the new treatment facility.
