Solar Permitting

Contractors can now use SolarAPP+ for instantaneous rooftop solar permitting in the City of South Gate.

What is SolarAPP+ ?

It's an automated online application for instantaneous permitting of certain new residential rooftop solar and energy storage systems.

Why use SolarAPP+ ?

  • Obtain a permit without needing a full plan diagram.
  • Lower your costs, including free revisions.
  • Expedite installation with instantaneous permit issuance once you've completed the application.

SolarAPP+ lowers costs and expedites solar installations, encouraging property owners to invest in generating renewable and sustainable energy.  To see which systems are eligible, please refer to the Eligibility Checklist.  Only projects that conform to this list are eligible to use the automated SolarAPP+ portal for instant permitting.  All other Solar/PV installations require a regular plan check process and building permit.

How to get started:

  • If you are a licensed contractor or installer, you may register for a new SolarAPP+ account on the SolarAPP+ website: https://www.gosolarapp.org/
  • Non-licensed/owner-builders must apply for solar plan check with City of South Gate Building & Safety Division.
  • After registering with SolarApp+, it's as simple as:
  1. Apply for pre-approval on the SolarApp+ website.  
  2. Create a log-in on the City of South Gate permit website: https://southgate.edgesoftinc.com/opc/
  3. Once you've paid all applicable fees your permit will be immediately electronically issued.
  4. Request an inspection to obtain a release of solar to SCE.
