Pay Your Water Utility Bill
Water utility bills are issued monthly to all properties in South Gate. Residential bills include charges for water consumption, street sweeping, and sewer maintenance.
For water billing questions, please call (323)563-9586. If your call is not answered, it means staff are assisting customers at the Customer Service Counter. Please leave a message to receive a callback.
Trash collection is billed separately by Universal Waste Systems (UWS). Please contact UWS Customer Service at (562)334-3660 with any questions related to trash collection.

You can pay your utility bill in any of the following ways:

If paying through your bank’s online banking service allow 7–10 days for processing.
Pay Water Bill
Convenience Fee
Effective March 15, 2025, a 3.5% convenience fee applies to all credit card transactions (in-person and online).
Avoid this fee by using an alternative payment method.
Contesting a Water Bill
If you believe your bill is incorrect, you may request a meter re-read within 30 days of the bill date by calling (323)563-9586.
After 30 days, the City cannot verify usage for the billing period in question.

Payment Plan Arrangements
Customers unable to pay within the normal period may request an alternative payment plan:
- Contact us in person, by phone (323)563-9586, or by email at CustomerHelp@sogate.org.
- Plans allow repayment of the unpaid balance over 12 months.

Reestablishing Service
If payment is not received within 7 days of the Turn-Off Notice, your meter will be removed.
To restore service, you must pay:
- Delinquent amount
- $204.28 meter reset fee (not applied to your bill; covers labor costs)
Warning: Tampering with a meter (e.g., adding a jumper) is considered theft and will be prosecuted.
