The Planning Commission is a committee of 5 citizens who are appointed by the City Council.
The Planning Commission reviews matters related to land use, planning law, environmental, and developmental issues. The commission holds regularly scheduled public hearings to consider such land use matters as the general plan, specific plans, site plans, rezoning, use permits and subdivisions.
There is no provision in the City’s Municipal Code that prevents a member from serving on multiple City committees or commissions. However, the City’s custom and practice is to avoid allowing a member to serve on multiple boards at the same time. In addition, Planning Commissioners do not serve on any other City legislative body governed by the Brown Act.
Elected officials are not permitted to serve on the Planning Commission.
Pursuant to Government Code Section 54952.3, disclosure of compensation for meeting attendance by the Planning Commission Commissioners is $125.00 per meeting. Meeting attendance is required to receive compensation.
