West Side Reservoir Rehabilitation, City Project 742-WTR
The City of South Gate owns and operates a municipal water system that provides safe, reliable drinking water to approximately 90% of the City's residents and businesses. Maintaining this critical infrastructure is essential to ensuring a dependable water supply for everyday use and emergency situations.
The West Side Reservoir, located at 2750 Tweedy Boulevard, is a key component of the City's water distribution system. The site includes two groundwater wells and two steel water storage tanks, each capable of storing 2.5 million gallons of drinking water. Constructed in 1999, the tanks are approximately 35 feet tall and 94 feet in diameter. After more than 25 years of continuous service, the protective coatings have reached the end of their useful life and require rehabilitation to prevent corrosion and preserve the structural integrity of the tanks.
This project will rehabilitate both water storage tanks by repairing damaged areas, replacing the interior and exterior protective coatings, and upgrading safety features. These improvements will extend the service life of the tanks, enhance system reliability, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and help ensure the City continues to provide a safe and dependable drinking water supply for years to come.
Design is currently underway. Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026 and be completed in Summer 2027.
