Citywide Residential Resurfacing Phase V, CIP 700-ST
The City of South Gate continues to invest in neighborhood street improvements through Phase V of the Residential Resurfacing Program. This project supports safer, smoother, and more reliable streets for residents, businesses, pedestrians, and drivers throughout the community.
Stage I Improvements
Stage I was funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and included improvements on the following streets:
- Wood Avenue
- Seville Avenue
- Kansas Avenue
- East Frontage Road
Construction for Stage I was completed on July 6, 2026. Staff is scheduled to present the project to the City Council on July 28, 2026, with a recommendation for formal project acceptance.
Stage II Improvements
Stage II of Residential Resurfacing Phase V, including related ADA sidewalk repairs, is currently in planning. The work is anticipated to include the following street segments:
- Liberty Boulevard: California Avenue to Otis Street
- Orchard Avenue: Santa Fe Avenue to Long Beach Boulevard
- Mason Street: Rheem Avenue to Bowers Avenue, including the short return at Bowers Avenue toward Firestone Boulevard
- Southern Avenue: Long Beach Boulevard to Atlantic Avenue / South Gate Park area
- Palm Place: Long Beach Boulevard to Seville Avenue
- Pine Place: Long Beach Boulevard to Seville Avenue
- Victoria Avenue: Southern Avenue to Tweedy Boulevard
- Duane Way: Hunt Avenue to Hildreth Avenue
- Burke Avenue: Firestone Boulevard to Southern Avenue
- Vossler Avenue: Firestone Boulevard to Southern Avenue
- San Antonio Avenue: Tweedy Boulevard to the south city limits
- Renda Avenue: Karmont Avenue to Glady Street
- Bowman Avenue: Tweedy Boulevard to the south city limits
- San Gabriel Avenue: Tweedy Boulevard to the south city limits
- San Luis Avenue: Independence Avenue to the north city limit
- San Vincente Avenue: Independence Avenue to the north city limit
- Batavia Road: Adella Avenue to Blumont Road
- Almira Road: Adella Avenue to Blumont Road
- Blumont Road: Aldrich Road to Ledgwood Road
- Richlee Avenue: Circle Park area to Glady Street / Blanchard Avenue area
- Atlantic Avenue: Firestone Boulevard to the railroad tracks
- Alleyway adjacent to the Firestone Station: Gardendale Street to Monroe Avenue
- Dearborn Avenue: Firestone Boulevard to Ardmore Avenue
Sidewalk grinding and sidewalk improvement work will generally be coordinated along or adjacent to the Stage II street segments listed above. An additional sidewalk improvement location is also planned on Garfield Avenue, from Meadow Road to Glady Street.
The City is currently coordinating with utility companies before paving work begins. The project is anticipated to advertise for construction bids in July 2026.
The Citywide Residential Resurfacing Phase V, CIP 700-ST is typically to rehabilitate and extend the lifespan of residential streets across the city. The main objectives include:
