Citywide Residential Resurfacing Project (Phase IV)

The City of South Gate Public Works Department is pleased to announce continued progress under the Citywide Residential Resurfacing Project, Phase IV, a major $5.7-million infrastructure investment to improve roadway safety, accessibility, and overall pavement conditions across multiple residential neighborhoods.

Project Overview

Construction began on May 27, 2025, and is expected to continue for approximately eight months. The project includes resurfacing of residential streets, installation of new ADA-compliant curb ramps, sidewalk repairs, water system upgrades, and traffic signal improvements to enhance mobility and safety citywide.

Construction Alert Summary

Ongoing work continues at two major locations as part of Phase IV:

East Frontage Road, between Southern Avenue and Miller Way, scheduled for October 6–14, 2025. Crews will recycle and replace pavement, with final paving on October 13.
Imperial Highway, between the LA River and Garfield Place, under construction from September 22 to October 31, 2025, including installation of a new U-turn pocket to improve traffic flow and mobility.

Temporary lane closures, detours, and parking restrictions will be in effect on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Drivers are advised to expect delays, follow flagger directions, and plan alternate routes. Emergency access will remain available at all times.

Construction Completion Summary

Public Works also announces the successful completion of paving operations on several streets included in Phase IV. Street grinding and asphalt paving were completed on Liberty Boulevard, Madison Avenue, and Missouri Avenue between August 21–28, 2025, following earlier improvements on Hildreth Avenue, Pinehurst Avenue, and Industrial Avenue completed in June 2025.

Liberty Blvd: Long Beach Blvd to California Ave
Madison Ave: Southern Ave to Tweedy Blvd
Missouri Ave: State St to California Ave
Hildreth Ave: Southern Ave to Tweedy Blvd
Pinehurst Ave: Southern Ave to Tweedy Blvd
Industrial Ave: Main St to Century Blvd

These coordinated resurfacing efforts have improved roadway smoothness, enhanced pedestrian access, and extended pavement life throughout the City’s residential network. All paving work in these areas is complete and open to traffic.
