Obtaining a Typing Certificate

Certain positions may require a typing certificate to demonstrate they meet the minimum typing requirements for the position. If a typing certificate is required, it will be clearly noted on the job flyer for the position. Candidates who fail to provide a typing certificate by the final filing date will be disqualified from the examination process. The Human Resources Department will not be administering typing tests to candidates.

A valid Typing Certification may be in the form of a certificate, letter, or test results and must clearly state the following:

• Applicant’s name
• Name of the agency administering the typing test, certifying the typing test results. Agencies acceptable are a government agency, a temporary employment agency, a business college, an adult school, or a public school system.
• Date the typing test was administered. The typing test date(s) must be dated within six (6) months of the City’s Employment Application due date.
• Verification the typing test was a minimum of five (5) minutes duration.
• Gross typing speed, errors, and net typing speed of the test
• Signature of person certifying the Certificate

Certificates that do not include all of the above information may disqualify the applicant from the selection process. INTERNET TYPING TESTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, except to meet special needs of the City.

For your convenience, listed below is information for local agencies that conduct typing tests and provide Typing Certificates. You can obtain Typing Certificates from other accredited schools or agencies. As indicated above, internet typing certificates will not be accepted.
