Community Open House - Gateway District Specific Plan
The City of South Gate is restarting their Specific Plan process for the Gateway District; an area of approximately 59 acres located at the northeast corner of Firestone Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue, and the future site of LA Metro’s Firestone Light Rail Transit (LRT) Station.
What is the Specific Plan?
- The City of South Gate is developing a plan to guide new development in the Gateway District.
- The City had previously developed a Specific Plan for the district between 2015 and 2019, but it was never adopted.
- The Plan will incorporate Metro’s latest plans for a new, planned light rail transit station that will be located near the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.
- The plan will also reflect updated City policies, state-wide legislative updates, such as Senate Bill 79, which allows for increased density in the areas immediately surrounding transit stations, and community input.
What kind of input is the City looking for?
The project team is looking to hear from the community about what they would like the area to look like in the future. Would you like to see housing, retail, industrial or entertainment uses - or a mixture? What kinds of community spaces or services would you like to see? How about open space?
