Duties

By resolution on July 24, 1989, the City Council of the City of South Gate recognized that the well-being of its community depends, in a significant part, on the mental and physical well-being of the youth of the community, and established the Commission for South Gate Youth. The commission was thereby created within the city government for the City of South Gate.

The Commission for South Gate Youth seeks to empower the youth by promoting and supporting high quality programs and projects that address the needs of youth.

Commission Facts

The Commission for South Gate Youth consists of 13 members. Ten members are appointed by the Chief of Police and approved by a majority vote of the City Council. The student body presidents from the City's high schools, or their delegates, comprise the remaining members. Commissioners do not receive compensation for their service.
