Joshua Barron was elected to City Council in November 2022.  Prior to being elected to council, Councilmember Barron served as Parks and Recs Commissioner for 5 years and was Chair for 2 of those years.  He also was appointed to the Tweedy Mile Advisory Board where he served for 3 years and was Chair for 2 of those years.  

Councilmember Barron has been married to his wife Elizabeth for 19 years. They have 3 daughters, Victoria attending a university, Katelyn attending high school, and Sofia attending St. Helens Catholic School. They have made South Gate their home and where they have chosen to raise a family.    

Councilmember Barron is a lifelong resident of the City of South Gate.  He attended Stanford Elementary, South Gate Middle School and South Gate High School.  He grew up participating in the arts and sports and as a youth was always at South Gate Park playing baseball and basketball.  Councilmember Barron has been very active in our community for many years. He is a Volunteer Coach for the SGJAA where he helps organize clinics for local softball players to learn from college players from around the country and host toy drives for the Santa Cop Program. 

Councilmember Barron’s Mission: Addressing infrastructure, promoting business growth that provides jobs in our community, improving the business districts, supporting the partner organizations in our community, working with local schools and non-profits to bring back the Arts in our community, working with local law enforcement to find solutions for the concerns of our residents, improve Community Pride and be an advocate for our community.
