GATE Buses

The city operates a local transit bus system called the "Get Around Town Express" (GATE). The service runs on a continuous loop. Approximate wait time is between 18 and 25 minutes. Wait time is subject to change during peak hours.

Regular fare is $0.50. Members of the City’s Phone-A-Ride program, children under 5 years old, students and College / Vocational, ride free of charge (Student fee waiver is only valid during school hours). The service operates for most of the year with a few exceptions. It runs Monday - Friday 6:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M., and Saturday 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. FAQ

Where can I get route maps?

Get Around Town Express (GATE) maps are located both on the buses and in the Transit Office located inside the Sports Center in South Gate Park:

Does the GATE operate during holidays?

The GATE does not operate during the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. For more information, please call 323-563-5754.

Are there any other special discounts?

The “Ride the GATE to Work for Free Program” allows certain individuals to ride at no charge. This includes children under 5 years old, students, college/vocational students (Students fee waiver is only valid during school hours), and any employee with a valid identification card. Enrollment is not necessary. Identification card must be presented to driver at time of boarding. Call 323-563-5754 to learn more.
