Firestone Boulevard Bridge Widening over the Los Angeles River
The City of South Gate is set to reduce delays, improve mobility and increase safety on Firestone Boulevard. The Firestone Boulevard Bridge Widening Project will widen the south side of the Firestone Boulevard Bridge over the Los Angeles River and
add a dedicated right turn lane, shoulders and a center raised median from Rayo
Avenue to the I-710 freeway.
The project will also add a high-occupancy vehicle lane, standardize track lanes and improve freeway access. Additional improvements include ADA upgrades,
deck rehabilitation, barrier rail replacement, painting of existing bridge girders,
and associated street improvements on Firestone Boulevard.
The Firestone Boulevard Bridge widening is the first of a two-phase project.
The second phase entails widening and realigning the southbound on-ramp to the
I-710 freeway. Ultimately, the entire interchange will be reconstructed, including
ramp realignment and overcrossing replacement.
