Vice Mayor Jorge Morales
Jorge Morales was elected to the South Gate City Council in March 2011 and re-elected in March 2015.
Jorge is a lifelong resident of the City of South Gate attending San Gabriel Elementary School, South Gate Middle School and South Gate High School, where he played baseball for the SGHS Rams. Jorge later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach, and is currently working on his graduate degree from the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California.
Jorge has been a public servant for well over 15 years having served key legislative leaders throughout California. Jorge began his career in the public service sector as a Legislative Aide under then Assembly Majority Leader Marco Antonio Firebaugh. Jorge also served our students as Chief of Staff to a Los Angeles Unified School Board Member, followed by five plus years as a Legislative Deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina. Jorge joined the private sector in 2012 as Vice President of Business Development for the Meruelo Group, a Downey based minority-owned and operated holding company with vested interests in Construction and Engineering and affiliated interests in Television and Radio (Mundo Fox Channel 22 Los Angeles and KDAY 93.5 FM), banking, food services and private equity.
Jorge currently serves as a Senior Strategist for Ek, Sunkin, Klink & Bai, L.L.C., a full-service public affairs, strategic communication and government advocacy firm. The firm represents corporations, trade associations, non-profits and public agencies before government bodies at the local, state, regional and federal levels.

Jorge serves on the following committees and boards:
- State Director, League of California Cities Executive Board of Directors.
- President, California Contract Cities Association (CCCA).
- Appointee by the Secretary of the Natural Resources Agency to the AB 530 Lower Los Angeles River Working Group
- Appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy.
Jorge is happily married to Erika. The couple welcomed J. Santiago Morales, their first child, in November 2014.
